Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is the county's leading local charity working to conserve and restore wildlife and wild places.

Our vision

Worcestershire - part of a UK rich in wildlife, where everyone can appreciate, enjoy and help restore and protect wildlife for the future.

Our action

We have more than 75 nature reserves across the county that form part of our vision for a Living Landscape. By working with other landowners, managers and communities we aim to restore, recreate and reconnect fragmented natural habitats to achieve a landscape where wildlife can flourish and people can lead healthier and happier lives.

We take action for wildlife by:

• Caring for over 75 nature reserves - woods, heaths, pools, marshes and meadows of national and international importance.
• Protecting endangered species such as otters, dormice and butterflies.
• Restoring and recreating wildlife habitats on derelict and agricultural land.
• Campaigning to prevent damaging developments.
• Helping local authorities, organisations and individuals to protect and create places for the county's wildlife.
• Maintaining a unique local information base.
• Inspiring thousands of children through our work with schools and other organisations.
• Working with local communities to encourage appreciation and enjoyment of our natural environment.
• Encouraging and supporting over 370 volunteers involved in all aspects of our work.

Our members

Our members are the lifeblood of the Trust. Membership subscriptions and donations are the main source of funds for our conservation work, but members also provide the Trust with political influence, volunteers (including the Trustees who govern the charity), and links to local communities. Fundamental to all of these are our nine local groups who organise events and activities across the county, throughout the year.

Membership has grown in recent years to more than 20,000 - around 3.5% of the county's population.

Our history

In 1957 a group of naturalists founded the West Midlands Nature Conservation Trust, covering Birmingham, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.  Ten years later a separate Worcestershire Nature Conservation Trust was founded, which later adopted the name Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.

Our national voice

The Wildlife Trusts are 47 local Wildlife Trusts across the UK, plus the Isle of Man and Alderney. Together we're the largest UK charity network exclusively dedicated to conserving all our habitats and species, with a membership of more than 800,000 people including 150,000 junior members.
