Worcestershire TeleCare

Telecare Services

Telecare provides vulnerable people with equipment that can monitor their safety and well-being at home. We install a discrete base unit which plugs into a normal BT telephone socket and a personal alarm trigger which can be worn as a pendant or on the wrist.

When the service user needs to call for help - for example if they are unwell or have had a fall, they simply press the red button on their personal alarm trigger or base unit and they will be immediately connected to our 24 hour Monitoring & Response centre.

Their personal details including medical conditions, key contacts such as next of kin, support workers or doctors is immediately available to the operator who will arrange for the most appropriate help to be sent to them.

The powerful speaker and microphone in the unit allows the operator to communicate with the service user even if they are not close to the unit.  The personal alarm trigger will also work in the garden or outside area immediately surrounding their home.

If they are unable to respond to the operator, we will immediately alert their named contact or the emergency services as appropriate.

Using the latest call handling technology, we answer 98.5% of calls within 60 seconds in accordance with nationally agreed standards and our operators will stay on the line until help arrives if required.

How does telecare work?

Telecare uses a range of sensors linked to a base unit. (a kind of telephone)

All telecare users are given a personal radio trigger which you wear on your wrist like a watch or around your neck like a pendant to call for help.

Telecare can manage dangerous situation such as when you have had a fall or feel unwell and can get you the help you need as quickly as possible.

Additional sensors can detect if something has gone wrong in your home such a flood from an overflowing tap, extreme changes in temperature (too hot or too cold) smoke from a fire and the silent but deadly gas, carbon monoxide.

The sensors trigger an alert and an operator will immediately speak to you to check if everything is OK or if you need assistance.

When you need help

By using the personal radio trigger, the base unit or pull cord, you will quickly be connected to our specialist monitoring and response centre.

We are there, 24 hours a day, every day of the year and you will be connected to a real person, not a recorded message. All of our operators are fully trained and experienced in dealing with all kinds of emergency situations.

They will reassure you and make sure that the most appropriate help gets to you as soon as possible. And they will even stay connected to you until help arrives.

When we receive a signal from you

  1. All of your details appear on our computer screen so we know straight away who you are and if there are any special circumstances or medical conditions we need to be aware of. This is really important if you are unable to speak to us.
  2. If you are able to tell us what the problem is, we will contact the most appropriate person to help you. This may be your doctor, a family member, neighbour or support worker.
  3. If you can not talk to us or you can not get to the room where your base unit is, we will still be able to talk to you. The base unit has a powerful microphone and speaker and we will try to communicate with you or we will listen carefully to any sounds in your home to decide what help is needed. The connection will stay open until help arrives or you let us know that you no longer need assistance.
  4. If the signal has come from a sensor, such as a smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector, we will try to speak to you but will contact the relevant emergency services on your behalf.

And don’t worry if you press the alarm or trigger a sensor by mistake. We would rather know that you are OK and will take the opportunity to test your connection.

How to apply

It will not be a high pressured sales visit and there is no obligation to sign any contracts on the day. We very happy to talk to family members or friends as well.
